Never ever rush round a shoot, in a panic, getting hot, glasses steaming up and hitting your worst score in years (because you have to be at work by 11). That is all..
I thought that score was uncharacteristic  :yell:  but have to say it was definitely one of those shoots that deserves the tricky label. I had a good day myself and can't recall the last time I had so much fun missing 11 birds  , managed to pretty much hit everything long including all the battues bar one on the grouse area. If you're going to throw close stuff at least make it interesting and they did that perfectly too, stand 12 was very clever with the close incomer coupled to the gimme hanger, I watched a AA drop three there  :( , still struggling to understand how they even managed to throw that green "Teal" 5 yards in front  . I only messed up stand 11 (I think) dropping 3 including a whole pair.

I think it was one of those rounds that unless you'd shot it really badly you'd struggle to improve your score second time round, there were just too many long crossers and battues to bank on straighting many stands, some firm but fair simmo's too, very entertaining, top marks to the setters.

Went round in order and I was doing okay until I got to the Skeet stand with the green or yellow thing and pink one blanked it, couldn’t see them well.  Then the orange battue on my next stand couldn’t pick up and missed the black in frustration.   59 I think, thrown out anyway.

Coleys, first of the “summer series” course not everyones “cup of tea” for want of a phrase windy in places, bright sunny in places MrFaulds 93 high gun Sam Usher 90, no other 9+ scores, with the help of chums Pete Houghton, Stew Keen, Willy Hale, Joe Hale and Zea P one managed a welcome 7+ score in what seemed an age since the last one, bit chilly at times abd I for one would very much like summer to arrive

I’m going to go against the grain here and say I actually enjoyed it. Yes, not my most competitive outing but they were very different presentations to me anyway.

Struggled with consistency and being able to straight stands recently. Managed to straight one of the harder stands today and that’s the positive memory I have of today’s course.

Congrats on the 7+. Not a small achievement on that course.

Over 100 entries for a Wednesday shoot! Does no-one work any more?
Beats me Ian. I'm retired but I rarely find the time to shoot more than twice a month. I've got the builders in for 3 weeks, grandson's birthday last weekend and wife's birthday this weekend. Hoping to  be free to shoot Meadowcroft on the 18th...

It's a mixture of reasons,  many look to me to be of retiring age anyway but the rest are prolly made up of business owners who can do as they please, professionals who work Saturdays as a rule and so can take a day off during the week, tradesmen who take 4 hours out of their day and make it up later (a mate does extra hours the day before) and of course the odd idle rich.

They have had 220 on a Thursday Ian. It’s usually 160

I shot the RBSS Handicap Challenge twice today. A great time was had, as ever, although it was in a very cold gusty wind, especially for our first go this morning. I did 82 this morning, which I wasn’t too unhappy with in the conditions. This afternoon was still gusty but less so. I started poorly and was cross to drop 7 in the first few stands that I had hit in the morning! I blame it on mental game, shooting from memory. A better second half saw me rescue an improvement to end on 84. Add 5 handicap, for 89 on the scoreboard (which isn’t working yet, hopefully tomorrow). Irritating to know that best bits of my two rounds make a 91+5..

A nice course with nothing extreme or horrible, but some notable targets and a general mid to high level. Sadly they announced the dates for this at last minute and I have already booked a holiday which stops me attending the final, so no point doing it many more times. Recommended event, as ever.

If your retired and cant shoot more than twice a month you are doing something wrong.
I'm not doing anything wrong but I have stuff always happening. I work a few Sundays at reg shoots, I'm refurbishing the house and gardens, I have an allotment, there are grandparent duties, other family duties such as visiting or being visited, birthdays etc., and the wife is still working so I fit things around that as well - and so it goes on.

Ask around, see how many retired folk you know who have nothing to do.

Do you have any old clothes you don't want?

A tough Owls Lodge premier round today. Two stands that I thought looked easy enough, I cocked up royally, dropping 8 on those two alone. A poor 78 the total. Although I think it has been won on 91 from Myers, out of 260 entries. I thought it was a great set of targets, but 14 stands set between tricky and hard makes for a tough course overall. Needed two or three stands backing off to suit the whole crowd probably.
