Just the one shoot this weekend for me and that was EJ Churchill on Saturday. I've no idea what I would have done differently but the course didn't seem to have the 'X' factor for me

I liked the simo pair in the grouse butt of the incoming rabbit clay and the L-R looping thing. Did not like stand 7  :D

First time I have shot one of GD's courses so a great insight in to the style that can be expected for the worlds. Expecting a tough shoot though, if Saturday was anything to go by....

I've always found that to be the case there. Some clever target setting there considering the flat ground they're working with.
I thought that had hints of GD but it was not a full GD course and definitely not like his Highwaymans course. Anyone shoot it agree with me?

As someone who didn't shoot Highwaymans....what was different? It would be great to know more about GD's 'style' of targets :D

Well my first target out that day was a definite Churchill one.   Just got the impression that some of the stands he tweaked and the rest they did.

I've definitely seen very similar targets on Stand 1 at Churchill's on that stand before.  Similarly, the first bird on Stand 7 I've seen there before (actually hit one, which I didn't the previous time).  Stand 6 second bird reminded me of one that was combined with a rabbit on the first half of the Highwayman's shoot.

And I seem to recall a sim pair at Highwayman's that gave practically no time to get on the second bird.  Not dissimilar to Stand 8 on Saturday (although it was two l-r crossers at Highwayman's, not a l-r rabbit and l-r crosser).

It was almost tropical today after the recent cold weather and hardly any snow left. So popped down to Horne. It started raining as soon as I pulled into the car park but thankfully just a light shower. Started off ok but dropped 1 on each of the first 3 stands. Then started shooting well albeit 1 stand the ref said thats a good card and of course I missed the first bird straight after. Held it together and finished on 91 which is a PB for me and a milestone being that its my first 90 or higher score. So thankfully that mental barrier is now gone.

Well shot Simon.  I started off OKish, didn't shoot as well as I should have on the two stands with the low crossers on them in the first half of the course and then picked up from the corner and up the hill.  A bounce from the rabbit on the last pair robbed me a pb, but very glad to have finally got another score starting with an 8 (got 81).  It's been a year and I've hit numerous 78's and 79's in the interim.

Weston Wood for me.very bad start, dropped five in the first two stands, overleading a pink quartering bird on 1st stand and then dropping complete last pair on left right looper and right left high ish crosser.had a serious word with myself and got my head down to finish on 87.Looking forward to Gunsite next weekend, really need to find that extra little bit of focus to start grinding out the all important straights.🧐😁

Garlands for us. Good course. Enjoyed being out considering we had resigned ourselves to no shooting this weekend. Not too cold.missed the rain. :yahoo: Had a total brain fart on some simo teals. 3ex8. Doh. Dug in , shot the rest well.88 .

Jasper.

Was that stand I chatted to you briefly with the orange L-R following pair? Stand 6 I think - dropped 2 there. Only straighted 4 stands but didnt mess any up. Last stand I did in the middle corner was nervy as that 2nd bird kept no birding.

Shame you missed a PB by such a narrow margin.

Also Weston for me and a similar story. The course was not highly changed from last time, due to the snow limiting set up time ..

I started tatty, binning 4 for no real reason in first four stands. Then tidy for a while before going to sleep on the 5 pair l-r crosser stand, dropping 3 in the middle, not enough lead, really stupid. Finished on 90 but it felt like they were all soppy misses and Richard Faulds proved the point with his 99!

Yes, dropped 4 on that one.  Hold point far to far left, couldn't see it consistently early enough.  Took me until the last pair to twig it and I got both of them. Dropped 3 on the next stand as well.  Behind the first two white ones and then just sloppy on the first bird on the last pair.

From the corner up to the last stand I only dropped three birds (the first crosser on the corner one, the first green crosser that was with the mini and that last jumping rabbit).  Was pleased with the mini stand, the great GD was standing right behind me waiting to shoot and all I could think was, 'f***, I'm going to b*gger this up now.'

WWood also, mind was so nearly not going out at all as few hours earlier town covered in slush/snow & it was snowing so when early morning one saw negligible white stuff and clear roads a frantic effort to do ones promised chores & the like before a very pleasant drive to WestonWood.

Met a fair few from forum plus the missed Nicola Heron who was in good spirits. Had pleasure of shooting round with chums Joe & Zea, One did get off to a very good star, few wobbles but generally holding it well, poor Joe & Zea's shooting blighted by no birds & trap issues, one did have a few hiccups with a trap & trapper on stand 2 which made it more of a challenge than it should.

The constant clumping through the increasing quagmire was though taking its toll, our backwards & forwards yomps to avoid a few massive crowds meant that our step count was usually high, as we drew to the end my wheels were loose, they then fell off, I had no spare, a few demons appeared, having shot so much so well one should have finished better.

Joe 85, Zea with a strong last few stands 71 and this old codger 69, Im looking forward to summer, she cannot come soon enough.

Mr Faulds 99 very big hand

Went to Horne first thing and got round in 52 minutes, felt quite warm and so glad the sprinkle of rain that started when we arrived never took hold.  Very sloppy  start for me, few I found hard to see and finished on an 82.  I enjoyed the last stand which was the one nearest to the entrance simply because all my second birds were dust and it amuses me.  Went on to Westonwood, last time for me as I won’t be at the last one.  Long round, no concentration, deja vu and simply not on the ball today, a very poor 70.

Cheers Rich, lovely to have your company. You're not kidding with the step count... An unusually high (for me) near 6,000 steps around that course certainly took its toll... Thank god for glucose tablets! 😉

Weston Wood for me this weekend. Poor show, had a slight epiphany at one point though so I know one basic thing I'm doing wrong on every shot. Hopefully fixing that will help! :)

The basic thing Im doing wrong on too many targets is when ive eventually decided to pull trigger,
