Just spoken to Dave on email.

He has suggested loosening off my current pad, putting some shims in to make it "23mm" , and then try some dry mounting to see if the extra length feels right or not.

Sounds like a good idea to try before boldly trotting off down the gunsmiths....

Ahh so it was you causing the engaged tone!!

Sorted now though - meeting Dave tomorrow to have an X-Pad fitted to my K80.
Sorry, but Dave is very helpful and chatty on the phone and as this is for my wife we had a few things to discuss-------------well you know how it is. :nyam:

Phil

Well, I fitted and shaped 2 pieces of fibreboard to my butt plate last night and effectively made my recoil pad 25mm thick.

Went out this morning and shot a 60 bird sporting, a round of fitasc and compak. I can officially say that I shot just as badly last week without the "extension"!!

For this reason, I will be ordering an x pad in the next week, safe in the knowledge that I will be carp with or without! ;-)

It's still in your best interest to order what will end up comfortable to mount and shoot, an easy way to check this is to do repeat dry mounts whilst moving your left hand back and forth on the fore end to see what feels best.

To be honest Hamster, I couldn't tell much difference, although one thing I noticed was that I didn't need to bend my neck quite as much possibly?!

My gun without a pad at all only measures 13 and 3/4 inches LOP. I am 6'2", so making it an extra inch in length is probably only going to be in my favour anyway! And that's without seeing a gunsmith to double check!

Spoke to Dave today and ordered my green pad. As everyone on here said, he was very pleasant and helpful even giving advice on sanding to size. In my previous post I said they were hard to get hold of,but found out today the phone line was out for a couple of days, anyway looking forward to fitting it and trying it out on the weekend will post my thoughts next week

Got mine yesterday, but I can't do much with it 'till I get this plaster off my arm!  I'll probably take mine to a gunsmith and get the stock adjusted accordingly in January.  Dave did mention taking it to Philip Webster, or my nearest gunsmith is Richardsons in Halesworth anybody had any dealings with either of these two?

I have the latest Isis pad on my gun and I notice it better than my previous Isis pad

x pad fitted but no shooting this weekend   so maybe get down to owls  on thursday  .claimed to 15% better than "old" green pad. update to follow.

mine now on, just waiting for adjustable comb conversion, be good to hear what you think.

Got the pad on and it looks nice on the gun, took it to the club and lots of people liked the look of it. Shot 47x50 but but more importantly

It felt right and has smoothed the recoil out. Real test will be over Xmas when shooting a couple of 100 birders and 2 shoots some days.

Very pleased so far and keeping it the green colour because I think it looks better than all black

X pad going on this weekend on both mine and wifes gun going to have to lop a bit off both stocks though as pads are rather thick. Now where's that old pruning saw :spiteful:

Been running an X-pad on my gun since 26th November - was using a Kickezz before.

It is teamed up with a Gracoil recoil reducer which has the adjustable LOP.

I simply met up with Dave @ Nuthampstead and screwed the oversized pad onto my gun and shot a couple of trial rounds before committing. It felt OK so used a scribe to outline the pad to the size of my recoil reducer and gave it back to Dave (Saturday Afternoon). Tuesday Morning the pad arrives and has been shaped perfectly to fit.

It was approx 5mm longer than my kickezz so i simply wound in my LOP adjustment to the correct length again and away i went. The pad responds very differently and the only way i can relate it is like a very dense memory foam mattress.

The differing types of foam compress and return at differing rates of speed to each other and certainly much slower than the rubber Kickezz. There is a hint of "shaping to fit" as you mount the gun if you shoot gun up and pull the gun in quite tight like i do. Recoil is certainly reduced compared to my old pad but the trade off is that the gun behaves differently and takes a little getting used too. I found that it was quite a "dead" recoil feel rather than getting a "bounce back return" that i used to before.

Have to be honest and say that the initial feel threw me and a had a few rounds where i didn't shoot aswell - but very much back to normal now running straights and with reduced recoil which can only leave me fresher at the end of a shoot.

The X-pad gets a thumbs up from me and i am looking forward to using it in 2014 in competition.

I only tell you all what works the best.....and then is is all up to yooooooooou....!!
