Watched gd talking about energy drinks and some new sachet drink and just wondered how many of you used and how often and does it really make a difference?

Energy drinks make no difference unless your doing endurance sports and the jury is still out on this as it's so difficult to collect the scientific data. Keeping hydrated with water is all you need.

good high protein breakfast to keep the hunger away...smoked salmon and poached eggs on toast is my favourite start to a shooting day :)

I used to but found that they lift you pretty quickly but also make you crash when it wears off.  Personally I think those drinks are aimed more for doing really intense activity.

Now I just drink water (sometimes I put a soluble multi-vitamin tablet in) when I shoot, try not to drink lots of coffee before as its a diuretic and breakfast now is a couple of bits of toast and a banana.

You can eat what you want when you've finished.

I find a nice bottle of malbec the night before gives me enough energy to get round. In fact iam halfway through a bottle now and feeling ready to go.

Too much salt, sugar & caffeine... more likely to spike your heart rate & blood pressure & impair your performance. Stick to water or squash

Never - drinking milk for hydration with a spoon of honey when feeling down.

I like red bull but can't say I ever feel raring to go after consuming one

Why would anybody who shoots need an energy drink? Just drink water, stay off the fatty foods before shooting and crack on. Of course GD is talking about it, he has a vested interested in them......

wery well put, I was going to sat something similar but i lack diplomacy skills to put it that well

stuff it, full English before and a red bull mid shoot followed by a Chinese or pizza when you get home. Its sposed to be a fun day out and were not doing a triathalon.

weres me vino. Hic

each to their own but I was just offering some general advice for those who think that energy drinks may help their performance whilst shooting......

George is a mine of information and clearly has a vast amount of knowledge re shooting and competing.

I draw the line at nutrition advice though...

Check out the DVD by Rudi Vigano and Marco Venturini, they go through pre shoot and shoot day nutrition and hydration, as renato Lamera in his latest book.

Certain energy drinks are banned in France due to the health risks they pose, that should tell you enough....
